Legacy
The Legacy Committee was formed in 2004 to administer the operation of Concordia’s endowment fund. The fund serves to support Concordia’s ongoing mission and ministries above and beyond what is in Concordia’s annual budget. The committee reviews all requests for distributions from the fund and makes a recommendation to the congregational council for the approval or denial of each request. There is an educational component to the committee’s work as they educate the congregation about the importance of legacy and assist donors in the process of making gifts to the legacy fund. The goal is to spread an awareness of the legacy fund: what it is and what it can do for the congregation.
The Legacy Fund also receives requests that enlarge or enhance Concordia ministries. They have funded Journey to Bethlehem, the churches re-enactment of the Christmas story used to help welcome families and involve the congregation; the Tri-Town Shelter; relocation assistance for refuges from Burma; Concordia’s participation in Manchester’s Heritage Day; and many other programs. The committee also funded the original architectural studies for ‘Rebuilding God’s House.’ The committee is busy.
The Legacy Committee is funded by the congregation through its planned giving. It is a perfect way to remember a loved one. If someone wanted to make a gift to the Legacy Fund they would contact the committee chair
Membership: One Legacy member is appointed by Council from Council. The four remaining members are elected by the congregation on a staggered basis for 3 year terms. The senior pastor and treasurer are committee members with voice and vote.
